THE ESTRUSCANS FROM CERVETERI 4 hours tour, 9.00am or 2.00pm; bus or car renting as well as entrance to the necropolis to be paid separately. Cerveteri, one of Italy's great Etruscan cities, is located about 60 km north of Rome, on the Aurelia Road. Unfortunately no furnishing from the Etruscan culture remained, therefore all information on the Etruscans' life is known from their burials and from the utensils which were founded. Thanks to the wealth of details in the burial paintings, discovered during the Necropolis' excavation, we gained knowledge of the names of the divinities which they worshipped, the utilized simbologies, the tools they used, such as baskets, vases, buccheri, containers etc., so that it was possible to make assumptions on the the Etruscans' habits and on their daily life. From the IX century B.C., the burials were characterized by a cubic and barrow forms and cave paintings. Inside those burial places were found sarcophagi, statues made of clay, small idols. The burials were disposed along burial roads, as they were city roads. As a matter of fact, the Etruscan burials are real "funeral houses". The Banditaccia, declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 2004, is one of the most monumental necropolis in all the Mediterranean area.
